Red Flag Romance Alert: "The Boyfriend" Will Make You Question Every Text Message

🚩 Red Flag Romance Alert: "The Boyfriend" Will Make You Question Every Text Message 📱

Jenna here with another "I-should-have-done-laundry-instead-of-reading-all-night" review.

The Plot That'll Make You Side-Eye Your Own Partner 👀

Freida McFadden strikes again with The Boyfriend, and honey, this psychological thriller had me clutching my phone tighter than my morning coffee.

Our protagonist Sydney thinks she's found Mr. Perfect in Tom—until weird things start happening that make her question everything. Think You meets The Girl on the Train, but with more gaslighting than a Victorian street lamp convention.

Characters That Hit Different 🎭

Sydney is every woman who's ever ignored that little voice saying "girl, RUN." She's relatable in that cringe-worthy way we all recognize—like when you convince yourself that expired yogurt is "probably fine" because you really want that parfait.

Meanwhile, Tom gives off serious Joe Goldberg vibes, except he's somehow even more manipulative. It's like watching someone slowly realize their "charming" boyfriend is actually a walking red flag factory.

The Pacing: Faster Than My Husband Fleeing Chores 💨

McFadden knows how to build tension like I know how to avoid folding fitted sheets—expertly and with dedication. Just when you think you've figured it out, she throws another curveball that hits harder than realizing you've been pronouncing "açaí" wrong your entire adult life.

The Verdict: Page-Turner or Page-Burner?  🔥

The Boyfriend delivers that delicious psychological manipulation we thriller lovers crave. It's the literary equivalent of true crime podcasts—slightly disturbing but absolutely addictive.

Perfect for anyone who enjoys yelling "DON'T TRUST HIM!" at fictional characters while completely ignoring their own questionable life choices.

Whether you're team paperback, digital devotee, or audiobook aficionado (because let's face it, we all need our hands free for stress-eating), this book deserves a spot in your "questionable life decisions but make it literature" collection.

Rating: 4/5 red flags 🚩🚩🚩🚩

Now excuse me while I go analyze every text my husband has ever sent me.

Your sassy book friend,

Jenna

Why Ali Hazelwood's "Deep End" Made Me Want to Throw My Kindle... In the Best Way Possible

Why Ali Hazelwood's "Deep End" Made Me Want to Throw My Kindle... In the Best Way Possible 📚💦 Posted by Jenna | Romance Reader & Professional Procrastinator The Setup: NASA Meets Pool Party Gone Wrong 🚀 So, I picked up Deep End thinking I was getting a cute poolside romance. Instead, Ali Hazelwood served me a full-course meal of emotional chaos with a side of "why-am-I-crying-over-fictional-people-again?" Our heroine is basically if Hermione Granger decided to become a competitive swimmer instead of saving wizards. She's got that same "I-must-excel-at-everything-or-I'll-spontaneously-combust" energy that hits a little too close to home for those of us who color-code our grocery lists. The Love Interest: Swoon City Population: Me 💕 The male lead? Chef's kiss He's got that perfect blend of supportive boyfriend material and "I-could-bench-press-a-small-car" vibes. Think Ryan Gosling in The Notebook but with better com...
