My Heart Got Slammed (Again!) in Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover

My Heart Got Slammed (Again!) in Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover šŸ’–

Michelle again, I'm back. You guys know I’m a sucker for a good book series, and after the absolute gut-punch (in the best way!) that was Slammed, I immediately dove headfirst into Point of Retreat

My Kindle app on the iPad is practically glued to my hand these days, and my husband is just resigned to me mumbling about fictional characters at dinner. 🤷‍♀️

Picking Up Where We Left Off… (Mostly!) šŸ¤”

Point of Retreat continues Lake and Will’s story, and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. If you thought they had it tough in Slammed, just wait. This book throws even more wrenches into their perfectly imperfect love story.

We see them trying to build a life together, but as anyone who’s been in a serious relationship knows, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. There are real-world problems, insecurities, and external forces that test their bond.

Why It Still Slammed Me (in a Different Way!) 🤯

While Slammed was all about the initial, raw, passionate connection, Point of Retreat delves deeper into the complexities of a committed relationship. It’s less about the "will they, won't they" and more about the "can they make it?" It’s the kind of book that makes you reflect on your own relationships, past and present.

The challenges Lake and Will face felt incredibly real and relatable, reminding me of those sometimes messy, sometimes uncomfortable, but ultimately growth-inducing moments in life.

It’s like the difference between the exhilarating first act of a romantic comedy and the more nuanced, character-driven second act where they actually have to work at it – think the evolving relationship dynamics in When Harry Met Sally after the initial sparks.

And yes, there’s still plenty of poetry! Will’s words continue to be a highlight, adding another layer of emotion and insight to their journey. I was completely engrossed, turning pages faster than my kids can ask for snacks.

Indulge for Yourself in the Next Chapter! šŸ“š✨

If you devoured Slammed, then Point of Retreat is an absolute must-read. It’s a beautiful continuation that explores the harder, but equally rewarding, aspects of love and commitment. It’s the perfect escape from the daily chaos of work, kids, and dog walks.

Go on, add it to your Kindle library. You deserve to treat yourself to a good story that makes you feel something. Happy reading, and remember, a good book is always an emotional vacation!

This Romance Had Me Ugly-Crying Into My Coffee (Again) 😭☕ Why Tessa Bailey's Dream Girl Drama Is the Literary Equivalent of Finding Perfect Jeans Listen up, fellow book addicts hiding romance novels behind our grocery lists – I just devoured Dream Girl Drama by Tessa Bailey, and I'm here to tell you it's messier than my kitchen after attempting Pinterest recipes. The Plot That Had Me Canceling Plans šŸ“š Stella Schmidt is living her best influencer life until reality comes knocking harder than my mother-in-law at dinnertime. When her perfect online persona starts crumbling faster than my diet resolutions, she's forced to return home and face the music – and her high school crush who's now a single dad running the local hardware store. If you've ever posted a carefully curated photo while sitting in yesterday's pajamas eating cereal for dinner, you'll relate to Stella's struggle between authentic life and Instagram perfection. Book Review: Lights Out: An Into Darkness Novel by Navessa Allen

Book Review:  Lights Out: An Into Darkness Novel by Navessa Allen Or: How to Accidentally Get Emotionally Attached to a Hot Mess in a Dystopian Wasteland Let me start by saying I picked this book up because the cover screamed “moody post-apocalyptic romance” and I was emotionally in the mood to watch the world burn — just not literally (looking at you, 2020). Also, my husband was watching a documentary about concrete. Again. So I needed an escape. Enter Lights Out — Navessa Allen drops us into a world so bleak it makes my toddler’s tantrum in Target last week look like a Disney short. The government’s gone, the electricity’s gone, and surprise!  So has any illusion that humans will behave decently without air conditioning. Our heroine, who I’ll refer to as Sass Apocalypse Barbie, is a badass survivor with a moral compass that sometimes points north-ish… but only if there’s whiskey. Plot-wise , it’s part survival horror, part slow-burn romance, and part “holy crap, did t...

Understanding Teenagers: A Parent's Guide

Understanding Teenagers: A Parent's Guide  Hi everyone! As a parent, I know firsthand how bewildering the teenage years can be. It’s like you’re suddenly dealing with a whole new species, and the rule book seems to have gone out the window. If you’ve ever felt that way, you’re going to want to hear about this book I’ve just finished reading: "Teenagers: The Evidence-Base" by Matilda Gosling. Right off the bat, let me tell you – this isn't your typical parenting guide. It’s not filled with outdated platitudes or guilt-tripping advice. Instead, Gosling takes a refreshing, evidence-based approach, weaving together research from adolescent psychology, biology, neuroscience, and family systems to give you a clear understanding of what's really going on in those teenage minds. It’s about replacing the myths about teenagers with actual data.   What makes this book so good? It’s like having a cheat sheet for adolescence: The book is designed to be a practical tool...
